Well folks, it was the worst weather I have ever fished in a derby
or fish-in. It was very cold with wind gusts up to about 45 mph plus
several heavy rain showers. The fishing was very tough for everyone
except Carper Rick. It was particularly tough for the freeliners due
to the heavy winds.
Carper Rick was really on using his hair rigged maize covered with
a bread ball. As you can see by the scores below, no one else was
really into the fish. There were 13 entrants and only 7 of them
caught fish. My wife Mary (fishngal) should get an endurance award
for fishing the whole 8 hours (less a very short lunch/warm up break
in the car) in the horrendous wind, rain and cold.
Regardless of the totally nasty weather, everyone said they
had a good time. For some reason, Carper Rick seemed particularly
overjoyed. I guess that Rick's going home with $60 in jackpot money
plus the $20 gift certificate from Lakeshore
Bait & Tackle in Clearlake might have had something to do
with it.
