The weather was decent and the
carp were biting
quite well for some participants but not for all. I thought I was
really going to hammer them when I caught the first fish at 7:05 am
and the second at 7:35 am but I didn't catch my fourth and final fish
until about 1:30 pm.
Keith Thompson from
Guerneville had the most action by far, catching 13 carp during the
derby hours and he didn't even show up until after 8:00 am. He
caught the second biggest carp that I have ever seen come out of
Clear Lake, a 24 lb 8 oz'er! He
caught all his fish with a hair rig baited with maize and hooked to
a PVA bag filled with a secret ground bait. Keith graciously refused
the 1st prize fishing rod, saying that he has too many rods already
and gave it to 2nd place winner Steve Gibbons.
Everyone seemed to have a
great time, even those that didn't catch fish.
Here's the final results:
1st: Keith Thompson,
Guerneville- 80 lbs 12 oz's (heaviest
5 out of 13 caught)
